Check your Credit Report before Job Hunting Job Hunting? It may be time to check your credit report.

Depending on the type of employment you are seeking, there may be a good chance that your prospective employer will run a credit check on you. This is most common for positions where you'll be handling money, but companies also pull credit reports to help confirm your application is truthful - for example, your listing of former employers.

Actually, the reports requested by employers are special kinds of credit reports. Depending on the bureau, the reports have different names: For Trans Union it's the PEER Report, for Equifax, it's the Persona Report and for Experian, it's the Employment Insight report.

The content of an employment credit report is much the same as a regular credit report, except some things are hidden, such as account numbers, year of birth, and spouse information. Also, the fact an inquiry was made is hidden from creditors or other employers. (However, you have a right to see which employers inquired when you request your own credit report.)

If you expect to be job hunting, it's a good idea to check your credit report ahead of time, so you'll know what information might be revealed about you, and to correct credit report errors, if they exist.
