Credit report review suggested before shopping for a home Number one on the list of suggestions for
first time homebuyers is to
check your credit report. Make sure you don't have any credit problems or credit report errors that could surprise you (and cost you dearly) after you've already fallen in love with the home you want to buy. (That's also a rule: Don't fall in love with a house!)
Knowing your credit history beforehand is important because it can take a month or so to get errors corrected. Incorrect information can mean a higher interest rate, and many thousands of dollars over the life of the loan.
